Working with business partners: how it works
What sets kommuns apart is that an owner and the expert companies serving it work on the same inventory and the same work orders. The expert company works with its own kommuns organization (of type Expert Organization); the owner gives it permission only on the systems it needs, only as much as it needs, and decides on each assignment whether the company does the work or is the Consultant. The company's and its employees' permissions are computed from these assignments (see The dynamic permission model).
Example: Harborview Hotels Group has its chillers, cooling tower and air handling units maintained by Brightline Facility Services, and its elevators, fire and life safety and electrical systems inspected by Castell Inspection & Engineering.
Who sees what?
| Owner | Expert company | |
|---|---|---|
| Inventory | All of it | Only the systems it was given a permission on, and the equipment below them |
| Work orders | All of them | The work orders assigned to it and those on systems it has a permission on |
| Permissions | Decides which permission is given on which system | Can pass the incoming permission on to its own employees, with a limit |
| People | Its own employees | Its own employees; it does not see the owner's employees |
Organization types; doing the work and consulting
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Inventory Owner | Owns the inventory; invites expert companies, gives permissions, opens work orders. |
| Expert Organization | Distributes the work from its customers to its own team; can manage inventory of its own too. |
Whether an expert organization does the work or reviews it on a customer's work orders is set by the Consultant switch the owner turns on when inviting the company, assigning it on the inventory or in Edit Permission:
| Assignment | On the work orders |
|---|---|
| Does the work (Consultant off) | Maintenance, repair, service; fills in the form and completes the work. |
| Consultant | Inspection, periodic testing, engineering; checks the work, approves or rejects it. |
The same expert organization can do the work for one customer and be the consultant for another. An owner can also make its own employees consultants: add the employee on the inventory as a Consultant.
Expert companies work from the Expert group in the menu: Business Partners, Incoming Work Orders, Incoming Invitations, Expert Settings.
